Arthritis Pain Management and Control

Arthritis is a common ailment in both dogs and cats, whether due to chronic orthopedic conditions such as hip dysplasia, or part of the natural aging process. Fortunately we offer a variety of medications and treatments to keep your furry friend comfortable and agile into old age.
Laser Therapy
Our therapeutic laser offers the latest in pain management technology. Appointments may be scheduled any time of day and your pet does not need to be sedated for these treatments. Laser therapy has been used for decades in human medicine to improve healing time, reduce pain, increase circulation, and decrease inflammation. We are happy to offer this same standard of care to our four-legged patients.
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDs)
Far superior to baby aspirin, modern pet-friendly NSAIDs like Rimadyl, Deramaxx, Previcox, Metacam, and Onsior allow us to treat our patients’ arthritis pain effectively and safely. Several of these medications allow once daily dosing which can be used long-term or as extra help on “bad” days.
Joint Health Supplementation
All pets benefit from supplements to enhance joint health and slow the development of arthritis, but these supplements are especially important for pets who have already developed arthritis. Ask us whether tasty treats, sprinkle capsules, or flavored tablets are best for your pet!
Weight Loss
It’s amazing how much extra weight affects mobility, especially in our older patients. We have many tips and tricks for pain-free ways to cut out a few calories (or a lot!) and lose those critical pounds.
